The Tides Within Us

This journey of self-discovery follows the flow of oxygen through the body, reactivating forgotten connections between humans and nature. Breathing. We all do it. Every day. Without thinking. This journey of self-discovery follows the flow of oxygen through the body, reactivating forgotten connections between humans and nature. The Tides Within Us is a stunning outdoor experience, suitable for the whole family, that will engage your senses and fire your imagination. Set in Coventry’s newly formed Charterhouse Heritage Park, this series of awe-inspiring immersive audio-visual artworks imagine how the natural world connects to the flow of oxygen within us. Join us as we explore Paxton’s Arboretum within London Road Cemetery, created by Joseph Paxton in 1847, and see these spaces as you have never seen them before. Created by leading artists Marshmallow Laser Feast, with scientific partners Fraunhofer MEVIS, as part of their ongoing exploration of the world beyond the limits of our senses. A selection of the works featured was originally co-commissioned with York Mediale for the exhibition Human Nature on show at York Art Gallery from 21 October to 24 January 2021. The Tides Within Us has been evolved and expanded especially for its Charterhouse Heritage Park setting, featuring contributions by local and national experts, writers and musicians, as part of Coventry City of Culture Trust’s Green Futures programme. Green Futures activity will take place throughout Coventry’s City of Culture year, featuring artistic and cultural programmes designed to engage both residents and visitors with Coventry’s natural heritage and “hidden nature”, promoting active stewardship of the local and global environment. The Tides Within Us is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and supported by the Garfield Weston Foundation.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF) create immersive experiences, expanding perception and exploring our connection with the natural world. Fusing architectural tools, contemporary imaging techniques and performance with tactile forms, MLF sculpt spaces that lay dormant until animated by playful investigation.
